Where you’ll find it…
Find this lovely meadow on Effingham Common Road, next to Effingham Junction train station. There’s a small amount of free parking in laybys on the lane called Effingham Common, that leads to Effingham Cricket Club. The nearest postcode is KT24 5JG, but it won’t bring you to this spot. The grid reference is TQ 10596 55287. What3Words: fleet.sobs.goats.
What you’ll find there…
Be sure to make your way up to the highest point, it’s a forgivingly gentle slope. Well worth the effort for the far reaching view.
On your way you’ll encounter two lovely ponds and, depending on the season, you might be lucky enough to hear the resident skylarks singing above you. The soundtrack of summer and, sadly, a sound that’s getting rarer. To help protect these birds, dogs should be kept to the paths during the breeding season (May to August).
It can be wet here in winter, and after prolonged rain, so it’s worth bringing wellies.
