We run regular group dog walks exploring the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area and the ‘Greenspace on your doorstep’ directory.

The walks listed here are for non-Facebook members only, but are free to join. Places are limited, so please book to avoid disappointment.

 

Forthcoming walks

Date: Wednesday 21st January 2026

Time: 13:00 – 14:30

Location: Whitmoor Common, Surrey

Whitmoor Common is part of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (TBH SPA) which protects vital nesting habitat for three rare ground-nesting birds.   

This  2 mile / 3.5 km circular route explores the beautiful, open heathland of Whitmoor Common. It will take about an hour and a half at a relaxed pace, allowing our dogs plenty of opportunities to engage with their environment along the way.  On our route, we will be chatting about wildlife-friendly walks with your dog and learning which species you can find here.

Heather Farm to Horsell Common 

Ground-nesting bird season is just round the corner, in fact, Woodlark may have already begun to sing! 

We will start our walk at Heather Farm, one of the 80 plus GOYD sites across the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (TBH SPA) and will finish by exploring Horsell Common, one of the heathland SPA sites. These heathland areas support three rare ground-nesting birds as well as lots of other wildlife. 

We will be chatting about wildlife-friendly walks with your dog and learning how we can all help to protect the heaths. 

This circular walk is about 4 miles / 6.2 km long and it will take about two hours at a relaxed pace, allowing our dogs plenty of opportunities to engage with their environment along the way. 

This walk is free to attend, but places are limited so please be sure to book.

Time: 1pm – 2.30pm (depending on the pace of the group)

Dogs per person: The maximum number of dogs per person is two.   

Leads: Dogs must stay on lead for this walk. 

Accessibility: This route mostly follows un-made paths and is fairly level.    

What to bring: You will need a lead, collar  and/or harness for your dog, as well as poo bags and treats. Please wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather.   

Nervous dogs: We want this walk to be enjoyable for everyone, so if you have a nervous dog, please feel free to join us, but leave more distance between yourself and the main group to give your dog space. Before touching/feeding/approaching an unknown dog, please check with the owner that this is okay.   

Important note about dog walking equipment: For the safety and well-being of everyone, we do not permit the use of prong collars, shock collars (e-collars), choke chains, or any other aversive tools during our walks. These devices present safety concerns and conflict with our ethical standards. We kindly ask that they be left at home.  

You are welcome to join us with a standard collar or harness, and we’re always happy to explain our reasoning and share ethical alternatives that align with our values.
