What you’ll find there…

At the time of writing there’s no sign to announce your arrival at Poulters Meadows (February 2024), but venture under the height barrier, down a tarmac track and you’ll come to a new car park.

Update: as at September 2025 the car park accessed via Albany Park Drive is marked with a sign stating ‘SANG Car Parking Entrance’.

A housing development is being built, but Poulters Meadows still makes a peaceful and very attractive walk. There’s a large expanse of water meadow to explore, with streams and extensive boardwalks. As you arrive, you look up to a small knoll and a detour to the top is rewarded by a bench and a view, and in early summer, a sea of buttercups and daisies. Named Albany Farm on current Ordnance Survey maps, the name of the farm that used to be here, the hill is known locally as Hillyburrow, named after the local rabbits.

The name Poulters Meadows, is a reference to nearby Poulter’s Bridge, one of the original brick-arch bridges built across the Basingstoke Canal when it was cut in the 18th century.

Note: Dog walkers may like to know that the meadows are not currently being grazed, but may be at some point in the future. There’s a mix of open and shaded areas and access to clean streams.
