Where you’ll find it…
There’s no car park for this nice little common, but there’s space for two or three cars in a dirt layby on Stafford Lake, Bisley, nearest postcode GU21 2SH. Grid reference SU 95546 58456.
There are a few pedestrian entry points. Two worth noting are the one off the A322 Guildford Road at approx. SU 95521 58241 and another from the housing development at approx. SU 95359 58606. Both have information boards showing the waymarked route and other public footpaths.
What you’ll find there…
Like many commons in the area, Bisley Common has been used by local residents for centuries. Once a source of fuel and other materials, and as pasture, these days the main use is exercise and recreation. This long history has created wonderful habitats for wildlife, with a mix of heathland, grassland and woodland. Now designated a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation (SINC), Bisley Common is managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust.
The circular walk is waymarked with white-topped posts. If parked at the dirt layby on Stafford Lake, you’ll spot one of the posts to the left hand side. This one leads you in a clockwise direction. Coming to a road with no obvious marker, turn left up the road until you see the next marker on a track going right (in less than 100m).
