Will we have heather?

I’m keeping a very close eye on the heather, the Common Heather that is, some people call it Ling. While other heathers, Bell and Cross-leaved Heath, have been in flower for quite a while, Common Heather doesn’t begin its spectacular display until the end of July. So, the big question on my mind is…will it be out for Heath Week? If it is, it’ll transform scenes, like the one in the photograph, into a sea of purple!

The blooming of the heaths is such a treat to look forward to. Yes, I know, I love it when the Nightjars arrive back, and when someone spots the first Silver-studded Blue butterfly of the season. But the heather is surely up there. It’s coming along, I can see a few springs coming into flower here and there and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll all be able to enjoy it at its best during Heath Week!

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Heath Week – Monday 25th to Sunday 31st July 2022.
